GW Price Hikes Coming
Posted on June 18th, 2005 No commentsOMG! have you seen the latest? GW must be the King of Ignoring Customer Feedback. Or maybe they just don't care? I don't really know. From the GW Site (Games Workshop US – News):
Effective July 6, 2005, select items in Games Workshop's product range will be increasing in price. Every year we will review our range and we will only have one review a year. Our next price review will happen in July 2006.
Not knowing how long the link will work, Ill post it below. What really kills me is some of the modeling supply costs. These are US prices so the Canadian ones are even worse. $7US for a container of PVA (White) glue? Forget the fact that I find the GW glue too runny (high water content) but I can get a freaking huge thing of Weldbond for that price. Weldbond is my personal favorite white glue.$8US for "Modeling Sand"? Ummm… $4.99 at ToysRus for a sack of it. $10US for A sculpting tool? Thats how much I paid for a whole set.
Basically, what they are doing is forcing people to realize that there are other, cheaper, options out there. As their sales on consumables drop, theyll be force to raise their prices on the plastics (they only do price reviews once a year according to them). I didnt see one item drop in price, too me thats not so much a "review" as a cash grab. The Skeleton box moves to $35US, I think that its the most useful sprue in existance (close 2nd is the Mordhiem Accessory Sprue) and I really struggle with buying any… if they had dropped that to $25US I probably would snap up a few. Net effect is the dont get my money ($0) so they have to spend more time and effort to try and make up for the lost sale. Sort of a Catch-22.
