Building Cellar Dwellers’ Blacksmith shop Part 2
« on: August 14, 2007, 12:54:04 AM »
I've posted part 2 of my 3 part how-to on building and finishing a building kit on our sister site.

Terrain Monster: Building Cellar Dwellers’ Blacksmith shop - Part 2

The first part is here

I keep worrying about the size of this series. Is it too much info or is this level of detail something that people want?

The series was conceived like this:
Part 1 - Construction
Part 2 - Painting
Part 3 - Finishing

I could even do a 4th part: Super Detailing. I haven't done any to this model... but I could

Wonderful job Rob.  I read through it twice and I did not see any mention to what type of paint you where using.  Nice job on the thatching.  Tons of it over here so if you want some close up pics let me know.

I don’t like using expensive Vallejo or even more expensive GW paint on terrain. I do on the detailing but not on the bulk of the model. I buy large craft bottles or big paint jars. You can get 120-200ml for the same price as the 12-17ml ones that you use on miniatures.

Heh. I used acrylics from the art store near me for the bulk of it. I should work out a chart of some type for art paint vs. gw/vallejo. Burnt Umber = Scorched Brown, Bleached Bone = Unbleached Titanium, etc.

Sometimes I used GW and so used the name of it (Tin Bitz).

I think a selection of thatch pictures would make a good reference section in the gallery. I've been thinking of trying a thatch roof with yarn as these fake fur/fuzzy towel types don't sit that well with me. The thatch roofs that I've seen (long time ago) didn't look the same.

I did find this site: http://www.thatched-group.com

Only in England eh? :P
