Kroot (Novice Painting)
« on: June 04, 2009, 10:46:22 AM »
So I was told that Kroot are a type of bird so I'm basing mine off of Blue Macaws. I went down to my local GW store and did a one hour painting tutorial on blending. Black under beak, with a lighter upper beak. There will be a yellow line that will define the beak area. The Proto Feathers will be green that will blend into yellow.

As for the blending, my D'yanoi Sept Tau use Ice Blue for Sept markings so I'm doing the Kroot Carnivores in Hawk Turquoise and blending it up to Ice Blue and then I will be doing a wash in Asurmen Blue and then re-highlighting where it is needed. Now grant you I'm a **** painter so I don't know how this will turn out with my skill level. The bits of plate armor on them will be done in Graveyard Earth like the D'yanoi Sept Armor. I think between those two they should compliment each other pretty well.

My Kroot Hounds and Krootox will be done in greens and browns I think (when I get some). Probably do a bit of blending so they match the Green to yellow like the proto feathers of the Kroot. Keep some continuity in my army without painting them all the same colour.

Also I am not that great of a painter so don't expect much out of me.  I just thought I would share.

Nice start! You're certainly going about it the 'right' way. Not that great a painter myself anyway, not that I have time to paint anymore (that's why I loved MK and MKD  8) ).

Looking forward to progress reports.

Cheers!

agree. great start. I'd give it a blue wash now with the Citadel Washes.

So I went down the the GW store today to paint.  Better lighting and it is nice to get out of the house.

I applied a wash to the Kroot, Asurmen Blue, then started the highlighting by applying a thin coat of Hawk Turquoise then doing each layer more with Ice Blue added to the Hawk Turquoise.

I must say I suck at this  :D  and it will take a lot of practice for me to get it right.  My biggest problem is painting a smaller and smaller area to give it the blended look.  Instead I seem to be just painting over and over the same exact area.

But I have 12 to paint so maybe I will get it by the 11th one.  I also picked up a Kroot Shaper.  He will be the last to get painted.

I know what you mean when you said you feel like you're painting over the same area.  I wanted so badly to blend colors in my last mini and only time and practice will help us improve in our technique. [and great tips from the people here and in other painting forums] :)

When will the issue be discussed in this regard?
