"Going rate" for professional figure painting
« on: March 26, 2008, 05:35:22 AM »
I am making 5 new heroes and would like to pay a good painter to paint my figs. There are several comic/game shops in my town where there are many good painters. What is a average fee for painting figures?

I am making the Hero group from the comic book that was included in the original starter sets: Snow, Rowan, Kerraii, Byrch, and Turrak'Din. Snow is a Khamsin Fuser, Rowan is a Mending Priestess, Kerraii is a Nightblade, Byrch is a Crystal Bladesman, and Kurrak'Din is a Troll Artillerist.

I would not go over $5-$7 a fig, sticking closer to $5 and bargaining to maybe $20 for the group. Rather than the 'pros', head to your nearest games workshop and ask any of the staff if they are interested in a commission job. They will all be fairly skilled painters and most aren't paid well. Offer to buy them a boxed set or a couple of blisters of their favorite figs and someone will come to the party. I have had a couple of bloodbowl teams done this way and they have come out quite good.

Most guys in the hobby are cash limited and someone offering to supply their 'fix' of figures can usually get them to paint something for themselves. Just look at the other stuff they have painted.

Cheers!

I would like to widen this issue more clearly. Once there is a new reference source
