Mixed Media / A Tale of Two Brushes

Well, I pulled out my terrain making stuff several days ago after a five year absence from terrain making. I set about making a dice rolling box for my wife (she's a wild roller... 'nuff said). I'm particular about my paint brushes. I've purchases expensive brushes that were terrible, cheap brushes that were great and everything in between. But when I find a brush I like I tend to use it exclusively. But, it can be an arduous task to find that "perfect" brush. I had several put away but in the course of the five years they had been ruined. I'm sure everyone knows about a brush being put up wrong and it bends the brush into an unusable position. That happened to my favorite brush. Now, I have the task of finding a new favorite brush out o fthe several dozen brushes I have...

On a side note... I got bi-focals earlier this year and it was a truly unique experience trying to paint through the bi-focals and I wasn't even painting detail; almost like learing to paint anew.

Lord of the Rings / Middle Earth Quest board game

Has anyone played this game yet? It's been described as "similar to Descent. I haven't played Descent yet so not sure what that means though I do know Descent is a dungeon crawl game.

As with all FFG's stuff it looks amazing. Think I might spring for this as I love all things Lord of the Rings. I own FFG's Talisman game and I enjoy it. Well, I take that back... I own Black's Talisman 4e but all of FFG's expansions for Talisman including their 4e conversion.

Mageknight Dungeons / Solo MKD Outdoors game today

I set up Heroscape tiles today to play a game of Solo MKDO.



I had three "areas" of the map. An outer "forest" zone, a middle "Fortress" zone, and a third "catacombs" zone.



This is a close-up of the Forest area. Notice the top: my scenario featured a magically locked door that a special key had to be found. This simulated rocky knoll was where the key was hidden. I wrote up a sheet the had three options for the fortress door: 1) door was unlocked, 2) door was locked but could be forced open (Defense 17, "Lives" 5) and 3) door was magically locked and could only be opened with the special key no matter how much force was applied to the door.



Close up of the "Rocky knoll." I just used a standard MK Dungeon door. Not the best but it worked okay for the scenario.



Here is a photo of the front door. I positioned WMT's and Treasure chests so my heroes could level up as normal. I put yellow tokens in the forest area, blue tokens inside the fortress, and red with a master adversary token down in the catacombs. I shuffled the MA token with the red tokens so I wouldn't know exactly where it was.



Here is a long shot of the fortress. I added some water tiles to simulate the decrepit condition the fortress was in. I set up a throne area near the front door and ice tiles for the growing effect of the master adversary.



A close-up of the throne area. I use artifact tokens as per MKD rules.



And this is the "catacomb" area and my master adversary: a Polar Ice Dragon. I use a 1D6 to determine what level the dragon is: 1 or 6 Ancient, 2 or 5 Mature, and 3 or 4 Young.

That's it. I'm getting ready to sit and give it a whirl now.

I wanted to install a copy of Open Office to me new computer and was prompted a pay option after I hit the download button. ALl good things come to an end I guess, nothing is ever free.

Stuff / eBay auction of SW miniatures without cards

I found an auction of star wars miniatures but without the cards for most figures. Is there a resource available on the web to print out the cards manually? I can't afford to spend a lot of money on SW figs but I would like to get into the game casually. This auction seems to be the best way, then I could print the cards as I have time and printer ink. Depending on how the auction goes I could get 100 figures for $10 or $20.

Painting Clinic / "Going rate" for professional figure painting

I am making 5 new heroes and would like to pay a good painter to paint my figs. There are several comic/game shops in my town where there are many good painters. What is a average fee for painting figures?

I am making the Hero group from the comic book that was included in the original starter sets: Snow, Rowan, Kerraii, Byrch, and Turrak'Din. Snow is a Khamsin Fuser, Rowan is a Mending Priestess, Kerraii is a Nightblade, Byrch is a Crystal Bladesman, and Kurrak'Din is a Troll Artillerist.

Ibson has custom heroes on his site, is there a particular program or template used to create the dials? I have some ideas for heroes.

Mageknight Dungeons / Difinitive list of Mage Knight Heroes

Does anyone have a definitive list of Mage Knight Heroes? I am compiling a list of just heroes and realized that both the Minion and Uprising expansions featured Heroes but they are not listed as heroes on WizKids' MK figure list. I am missing heores from those two sets and am not able to search my own figures.

I noticed this when I was looking at Kzar Nabar's stats on WizKids site and it wasn't listed as a Hero.
