Thunderfire Cannon and Techmarine WIP
« on: April 10, 2010, 10:23:57 AM »
Here's my latest project: A space marine Thundefire cannon and techmarine.

The parts have been cleaned as well as possible and I've already epoxied the main cannon.  One thing I noticed that there were some big gaps in the barrel and the rear part of the cannon didn't fit too well.

A little more work needs to be done on the gaps, but at the moment, I'm waiting for the epoxy to harden.  This is something that I hope will be enjoyable to paint.

Cheers!

Looking forward to seeing this painted.  I have not been productive with hobbies since going back to school.

I miss working on my hobbies.  So I will have to live vicariously through you.

@ pipr:

Finally, an update.  :)

The first 2 pictures show a base coat of Vallejo black on the cannon and the next 3 pictures show my initial attempt at a rust-like effect.  A layer of Vallejo Gunmetal Metal, then a wash of Games Workshop Ogryn Flesh, and a light drybrush of Mythril Silver.

The last 4 pictures show what I have done but the mini is still far from done.  Any C&C is appreciated.

Cheers!

I hate commenting on things when the person is better at it than I'll ever be but...

I thing the tracks need some variation. They blend into the wheels too much. Maybe some weathering (dirt) on the bottom portions.

No worries there, rob.  At the moment, I'm without a Mac, so I can't post any new pics at the moment.

Hahaha, I would love to, except that I live quite far from where you are.   :)

Quick pictureless update:

The cannon is fully assembled and painted except for a few finishing touches here and there.  The techmarine is already primed and basecoated black.

Cheers!

Looks pretty!  Seeing what you do with the Techmarine will be fun. I always found them complicated with all the little details.

like it. I have to agree with HP. Lots of little details that would drive me nuts. Can't wait to see it.

So far it is really well done.  The only thing at this point that could make it better is if it was Space Wolves  :P

I think you need just a shade brighter highlight on the armour now, very thin.

Hahaha, if I do get to make a space wolves army, I'll remember what you said, 'piper.    My client plays Ultramarines, so that's who the techmarine is working for.  :) YOu know, I was thinking of highlighting the armor just a touch with a blood red/blazing orange mix, but I don't have that shade orange yet.  Maybe I could try mixing a VERY tiny bit of yellow to the blood red.  We'll see.

The mini is still far from finished though, so please look out for more updates.

Cheers!
