OOH! I'd suggest putting a top cap on the rod tying it back into the fence after painting for extra support.

Ya, I was pondering that. I'm going to try making pins (1 for each hinge). If I don't like them then I'll go with the full length rod... Bent at the top into an "7" shape.

I gotta find a cheap supplier of styrene :-)

I reckon a '7' shape glued at the top would be the strongest. I like the pin idea and have seen them in real live but plastic ones would not hold up. Metal ones drilled into the other section 1/4" or so would probably do nicely, maybe even some brass ones that you could 'age' to look rusty. That might be the coolest looking way and still retain the necessary strength. Hope the ideas help!

Are you trying to use logic on me? Sheesh... I spit on your logic... even if you are right :P

I don't have any brass on hand. I think a trip to the hobby store is about due though.
