« on: October 21, 2007, 11:02:20 PM »
I'm looking for a new joystick and maybe start using a gaming keypad for MechWarrior 4

Here is what I would love to have

X52 Flight Control System

But I really can not afford it so I'm going with a joystick and keypad

Joysticks (in order of prefrence)

Cyborg Joystick

Trust Predator Joystick GM-2550

TRUST Predator GM-2500

Keypads

WOLFKING WARRIOR

A4TECH X7 G100 GAMING KEYBOARD PRO

Z Fang Gamepad

Cyborg Commnad Unit

If you have any other options let me know!

Wow, I haven't used a joystick in I don't know how long. 90% of my personal computer time is spent on a laptop so I never even thought about it. I should check some out at the store.

(Not every helpful am I?)

The only gaming I do on my PC is with Emulators playing the classic systems like Atari2600 and the original Nintendo. I use a PSX-2-USB adaptor that I picked up at RadioShack.

Before that I had a a few Gravis Gamepads, all of which were basically crap. The D-Pad is impossible to use and very unresponsive. The only good feature was that they offered a tiny app that would allow me to register keyboard keys (and shortcuts) to their controllers. This made games designed to run with the keyboard have a whole new appeal.

My X45 came in yesterday.

BIG learning curve here, it's going to take me some time to learn how to program it.

Just a late update.  I feel like an idiot.  I just figured out I can program Macros into my Saitek X-45!

Here is an example that I'm doing in Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries

Pressing and holding my "D" button will do this

F4(0.05)F1

It selects F4 (communications first lance) then waits a half a second then selects F1 (attack my target)

this allows me to now do multiple preprogrammed commands just by pushing and holding a button.  And because of the "pinkie" shift button I can add another communications command sequence to the same button.  Then add the 3 Mode buttons and 3 Auxiliary buttons (all within thumb reach on the throttle) I can program all of the communications to one button.

Here is a picture of the X-45.  A mate of mine just bought the X-52.  Maybe it is time to give my X-45 to my son and for me to get the X-52 Pro.  Must keep up with the Jones.

DAMN. I've got a Cyborg Graphite myself. It has a pidly little throttle, but it works well. Got it for $10 at Goodwill! Worked nicely for Star Wars Galaxies (before they butchered it) space combat and was fun for Crimson Skies!

Siatek no longer has the drivers or software available for any of their X-series below the X-50 pro (that is correct, sorry bloodydrunk that includes your X-50) on their regular website.

However deep digging found me this back door link to download the drivers and software.  YAY!

Laaaaaame.

For whatever reason, even with the updated files, my programming software is crashing every time I try to program anything in. It's just tragic the way these companies won't even provide a small bit of support for anything two generations behind the newest.

Are you sure you downloaded the right one.  You have the regular X52 not the pro.  Mine worked just fine and I have the X45

THREADCROPOLIS

So with me playing more FPS now than Mech and space ship sims I purchased the Wolfking Warrior.  It should arrive in a few days.

I got my Wolfking Warrior today!  It is awesome!  It works great for Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Diablo III.  I still need to test it with Borderlands and Brink.
