Stuff / Eee Netbook
« on: October 10, 2009, 09:10:07 PM »
I just picked up an Eee 1005HA Netbook from Staples.  Nice little system.  10.1" across, 8.5 hrs battery life, 1 gig of ram and 160 gig Hard drive

Just the thing I need for school.  I hardly weighs a thing.  Now I need to decide if I'm going to put any of my RPG utilities on it

« on: September 17, 2009, 03:51:55 PM »
I'm going back to school!  Big step for an old man like me.  So starting the 28th I will be going to school for Earth Sciences.  Most of my classes will be in geology, but my main focus will be Palaeontology.

Wish me luck, I'm going to really need it!!

Warhammer 40K / 5th ed. Space Wolves!
« on: September 11, 2009, 01:54:35 AM »
I got a sneak peak of the new Codex.

HOLY COW!!!!  or should I say HOLY WOLF!!!

I did not get an in-depth look mind you, but I did notice they took away the use of the Leman Russ battle tank  :(  but there are much cooler things they get in return.  I also did not see land speeders so those may be gone now as well.

Reasoning?

Historical Fluff will tell you that the Space Wolves do not follow the codex astartes so their structure should be the same as Space Marines during (and before) the Horus Hearsay.  Yes that means more like Chaos then current Space Marines.

This means your Grey Hunters (Tactical Marines) are equipped with Bolt Gun, Bolt Pistol and CCW (close combat weapon) wear other marines it is one or the other.

All space wolves now have Counter Attack and Acute Senses!  Yes all of them.

Fenris Wolves are really nasty and can be taken in packs as large as 15.

What would you say to Space Wolves Wolf riders?  For the cost of a terminator your marines can ride giant wolves (some bionic) giving them the movement of a Bike (12") and additional attacks.

Ok, that is all I got a glance at.

Now the models them selves are fantastic.  There will be plenty of new models coming out for the Space Wolves, but will be released slowly over the next year.  The detail is really really really cool

For those few of you that have been with Dungeon Crawlers since the beginning you will know I'm a big Space Wolf fan.  They were my first army and I look forward to collecting them again (I sold my first army before moving to England)

Stuff / Dead Computer Again
« on: August 26, 2009, 12:26:20 PM »
I installed the latest version of AVAST! virus detector.  The next day AVAST! was no longer working.  I tried repairing it and that did not work.  So I went to uninstall it and it would not uninstall.  THEN I started getting DOZENS of Write Errors and my computer frooze up.  It would not restart, not even in safe mode.

It is in the repair shop now.  I hope they can fix it.  I'm using my wifes laptop right now.  Damn I hate computers some time.

However I did get a good chunk of my Tau Army Painted.

Highland Piper's thoughts

At this point we called it quits.  I win  :D  I could have made some better choices.  Like NOT attacking the Rhino with the Crisis Suits.  An Gawd knows I could have rolled better with the Crisis Suits, it was like a bunch of Freshmen with snotty noses got in my crisis suits!

I must say I planned the attack on the Waveserpent and Striking Scorpions very well!

Worst Mistake....I kept forgetting the Kroot were in the Church      :x

Warhammer 40K / Tau and Magnets!
« on: July 31, 2009, 02:02:28 PM »
Coming soon!  I purchased 50 magnets.  The size are 2mm x 2mm

Using a 2mm drill bit, I drilled 4 holes in each Crisis Suit.  One in each shoulder and one in each arm.  I then placed magnets in them.  I then drilled 2mm holes in all the Battle Suit weapons and upgrades and placed magnets in them as well.

I will edit this first post with a more in depth detail, photos, links, etc.

I can now switch all my weapon systems around now on my Crisis Suits.  I placed a magnet in each of the Broadside Rail guns so I could place a Target Lock or Multi-Tracker upgrade if needed.

I have just purchased 50 more of the 2mm x 2mm and 50 of 3mm x 3mm.  Those should arrive on Monday.

Warhammer 40K / Tau Army Rosters
« on: July 22, 2009, 03:30:00 AM »
I'm just going to share some of my Tau Rosters.  Please add any advice you may have.

750 Pts - Tau Empire Roster - Forward Scout

HQ: Commander Shas'el (3#, 108 Pts)
   1 Commander Shas'el @ 108 Pts
Airbursting Fragmentation Projector; Burst Cannon; Hard-wired Multi-tracker; Shield Drone; Gun Drone; Drone Controller
      1 Shield Drone @ [15] Pts
         Shield Generator
      1 Gun Drone @ [10] Pts
         Twin Linked Pulse Carbines

Elite: Crisis Battlesuit (1#, 49 Pts)
   1 Crisis Battlesuit @ 49 Pts
Team Leader; Burst Cannon; Hard-wired Multi-tracker; Twin Linked Flamer

Troops:
Fire Warrior (10#, 147 Pts)
   7 Fire Warrior @ 147 Pts
Add Shas'ui; Pulse Rifle (x7); EMP Grenade; Photon Grenade
      1 Shas'ui @ [49] Pts
Hard-wired Drone Controller; Pulse Carbine; Gun Drone; Shield Drone; EMP Grenade; Photon Grenade
         1 Gun Drone @ [10] Pts
            Twin Linked Pulse Carbines
         1 Shield Drone @ [15] Pts
            Shield Generator

Troops: Fire Warrior (7#, 70 Pts)
   7 Fire Warrior @ 70 Pts
      Pulse Rifle (x7)

Fast Attack:
Pathfinder (11#, 216 Pts)
   8 Pathfinder @ 216 Pts
Markerlight (x7); Pulse Carbine (x7); Rail Rifle and Target Lock (x1)
      1 Devilfish @ [110] Pts
Burst Cannon; Gun Drones; Marker Beacon; Decoy Launchers; Disruption Pod; Flechette Discharger; Landing Gear; Multi-Tracker
         2 Gun Drones @
 • Pts

            Twin Linked Pulse Carbines

Heavy Support:
Hammerhead Gunship (1#, 160 Pts)
   1 Hammerhead Gunship @ 160 Pts
Railgun; Two Burst Cannons; Targeting Array; Landing Gear; Seeker Missle (x1)

Total Roster Cost: 750

VS. Chaos: I got my butt kicked.  The terminators ripped through everything.  The Railguns submunition did not bother to wound even one of his marines.  The markerlights from the Pathfinders certainly scored me more hits but what good is that vs. the 3+ armor save.

Don't bother taking Burst Cannons against marines.  Either in vehicles or Crisis suits.  Out of three shots I normally only score a hit on one and if I do manage to wound the 3+ save shrugs them off.

So here is what I thought of doing

I also added some large wall fortifications.

Now I just need to find the proper textures or figure out how to make them.

Campaign Cartographer / Maps for a Living Dungeon
« on: June 09, 2009, 05:52:35 AM »
I'm thinking of creating a "Living Dungeon" on my Wiki.  Pretty much each section of the Dungeon (1-8 rooms) will be on a single wiki page with links to the connecting areas.

The "Living Dungeon" will have dimensional pockets that appear like an outside world.  Kind of like playing a Hack and Slash video game.  You may be outside but your limited where you can go.

The question is what style of maps should I use?  Help me decide and tell me why you think the style you choose is better.

Old School maps like the classic D&D modules from the 70's and 80's
OldSchool.jpg[/attachment:2gadnkiw]

A Lighted Dungeon where you will see many Dark Areas
Lighted Dungeon.jpg[/attachment:2gadnkiw]

Battle Map so you can print out the sections and use miniatures?
Battlemap.jpg[/attachment:2gadnkiw]

Perspective Dungeon giving you a Isometric view of the dungeon
Perspective.jpg[/attachment:2gadnkiw]

Coloured Style 1
SS2.jpg[/attachment:2gadnkiw]

Coloured Style 2
SS2 A.jpg[/attachment:2gadnkiw]

Hand Drawn
Hand Drawn.jpg[/attachment:2gadnkiw]

Old School Perspective
aSampleDungeon_iso_blue.jpg[/attachment:2gadnkiw]

Another Option I may do is just a simple dungeon for the wiki pages, simple meaning no furniture or any major frills, and offer a pdf battle map with all the details.  I really can not decide.

Paper Terrain & Models / Making Paper Miniatures
« on: June 07, 2009, 01:00:17 AM »
I'm thinking of trying to make my own paper miniatures based off of Video Games.

I will start with Dungeon Siege I & II but taking screen shots then placing them in Photoshop.  I will then redraw the image in Photoshop or Illustrator.

I'm not sure how this is going to work, or if it is going to work, so if anyone knows of some good "How to" sites please post a link!

I will place some step by steps as soon as I figure out what I'm doing.

Painting Clinic / Kroot (Novice Painting)
« on: June 04, 2009, 10:46:22 AM »
So I was told that Kroot are a type of bird so I'm basing mine off of Blue Macaws. I went down to my local GW store and did a one hour painting tutorial on blending. Black under beak, with a lighter upper beak. There will be a yellow line that will define the beak area. The Proto Feathers will be green that will blend into yellow.

As for the blending, my D'yanoi Sept Tau use Ice Blue for Sept markings so I'm doing the Kroot Carnivores in Hawk Turquoise and blending it up to Ice Blue and then I will be doing a wash in Asurmen Blue and then re-highlighting where it is needed. Now grant you I'm a **** painter so I don't know how this will turn out with my skill level. The bits of plate armor on them will be done in Graveyard Earth like the D'yanoi Sept Armor. I think between those two they should compliment each other pretty well.

My Kroot Hounds and Krootox will be done in greens and browns I think (when I get some). Probably do a bit of blending so they match the Green to yellow like the proto feathers of the Kroot. Keep some continuity in my army without painting them all the same colour.

GW Paint Gun 001.jpg[/attachment:2kqfyyll]

GW Paint Gun 002.jpg[/attachment:2kqfyyll]

GW Paint Gun 013.jpg[/attachment:2kqfyyll]

Also I am not that great of a painter so don't expect much out of me.  I just thought I would share.
