Mageknight / Mage Knight is BACK!!
« on: October 22, 2010, 02:09:09 PM »
MK_LOGO_WHITE_BKGRD2.png[/attachment:1qnda5eu]

HILLSIDE, NJ – October 21, 2010 NECA/WizKids, the leader in collectible gaming, is proud to announce the re-launch of the Mage Knight property.  In 2000, Mage Knight defined miniatures gaming by combining a rich back-story, detailed pre-painted miniatures and revolutionary game play.  Mage Knight will honor that spirit of innovation within the property by expanding it across several platforms.

The initial Mage Knight offering for release will be a board game designed by Vlaada Chvátil, designer of the acclaimed games: Dungeon Lords, Through the Ages and Galaxy Trucker.

“For me, Mage Knights combine the greatest fantasy archetypes – honor and wisdom, strength and magic.  I want to bring to life a Mage Knight as an individual who steers the wheels of history and gives birth to legends. My hope is to capture that essence in a new and engaging way for fantasy fans around the world” says Chvátil.

WizKids President Lax Chandra says “Mage Knight launched our company and created a new industry (CMG) of gaming. Ten years later, we have come full circle. We have wanted to work with Vlaada for a long time and we are thrilled with his vision to make this a new experience while still carrying forward the world that so many people fell in love with.”

In addition to the first boxed set, WizKids/NECA plans several brand extensions set in the Mage Knight universe, including a new take on deck building games and role-playing games.

Paper Terrain & Models / Ebbles Miniatures Crotale IV and Hummingbird
« on: October 21, 2010, 11:36:49 PM »
Ok so the purple Crotale IV was edged and partially assembled by a 5 year old and the pink Crotale IV was edged and mostly put together by an 8 year old. My 7 year old is building an Orange Crotale IV which I hope will be done within the next few days. School is getting in the way of my hobbies again.

I did the Humming bird, which is for my Bug War game.

  • Craft Robo cut the models
  • The kids edged the models themselves. They put black on all but the coloured edges, in which case they used the appropriate colour (pink and purple in this case).
  • I then did the box assembly but the kids glued and placed them in the proper order.
  • I did the landing gear.

Warhammer 40K / New Dark Eldar!
« on: September 26, 2010, 10:42:20 AM »
Having traded my old Dark Eldar army to Jack in the Mox (old forum memeber) for Mage Knight figures before I moved to England, I have an interest in the new army.

Dark Eldar have not been updated since 2nd edition, we are now on 5th.

Warhammer 40K / Tau Rumours
« on: September 21, 2010, 03:10:42 AM »
From the WarSeer

Quote from: "dante76"
Through a new source, who with hindsight turned out to be pretty accurate with Blood Angels and Skaven....

Pencilled in release date of Aug 2011 (currently in playtesting)

  • 7 Alien allies (don't know if this is new or in total), new figures for 2 of them
  • All metal sets to plastic (Pathfinder box, Kroot with hounds and Shaper , Vespids)
  • Box of Krootox and possible larger
  • Possible new tank
  • Changes to Hammerhead Railgun rules. Essentially draws a line across table hitting everything in line. Multiple pen through vehicles, only stopped by a glancing hit.
  • Changes to markerlights. Point system. 1 Markerlight point = + 1BS, 2 Markerlight points = reroll to wound/hit 3 Markerlight = Difficult Terrain test (blinded by the lights?). Cannot be stacked. So cant have reroll to wound and reroll to hit at 4 points. ( I need him to explain this a bit more...)
  • Battle Suits. A plug and play system. Essentially streamlined. Pick two guns and a skill or two skills a gun. New models might have interchangeable arms similar to Killa Kans....
  • Pathfinders no longer have to take Devilfish (probably infiltration)
  • No human auxilary in list... (whatever Tau call captured guard who fight for them)
  • Firewarriors who do not take Devilfish can take 6 Kroot Hounds
  • Specialist Firewarrior squad who have forsaken gun training for close combat training. Probably -1BS +1WS +1I. Probably Elites.

I'm not so sure about the Specialist Firewarriors.  Now I know from personal experience that once a model is within 8"-12" of a Tau squad they are dead.  But it just does not seem like the Tau thing to have.  I would have preferred a special Gun Drone with only one Carbine Rifle and Flechette like the vehicles, or some other alternative.  If there is going to be Close Combat Tau specialists it should be a type of Crisis Suit or new alien allies not the Firewarriors.

I like the not having to take a Devilfish for the Pathfinders

Firewarriors and Kroot hounds?  I guess that would be ok.  It would help with the Close Combat.

I'm not sure about the new Markerlight rules.  No stacking?  I like giving my Broadsides a BS of 5, no minuses to Leadership?

I like the Hammerhead rule, but will they reduce the ST and AP of the weapon?

New tank?  Definitely a good sign.  Could use more Piranha variants as well.

Alien allies?  Fits perfectly within the Tau doctrine.

Now what I would like to see

Tau Drone Box Set

  • 4 gun drones
  • 2 Markerlight Drones
  • 2 Shield Drones
  • Or 8 drones with the pieces to make what you want.

Revamp the Shield Drone rules.  They are useless for the most part.

Revamp the Stealth Suits.  The Stealth Suits are rubbish.  The rule is that the attacker must roll 2D6x3 to see if they can shoot them.  I've never seen anyone fail this.  The average roll is 18".  Unless they are at opposite ends of the board most units will see the Stealth Suits.  Just to prove my point I will roll randomly 8 times.  - 15"   21"    12"    21"    6"    24"     21"     24" -  So only one maybe two good rolls in the Stealth Suits favour out of eight.  Rubbish.

Warhammer 40K / Annhilation of Chaos
« on: September 09, 2010, 01:11:59 AM »
I finally won a game against Bloodydrunk (he won the last three) and it was a humiliating defeat!

I used 15 Crisis Suits!

random games 019.jpg[/attachment:2ibj7qgv]

The board was made of Ebbles FUSS buildings, PaperMake it Bunkers and World Works Games Mayhem Destroyed.

random games 023.jpg[/attachment:2ibj7qgv]
Tay Deployment.  The Crisis Suits look right over the Medium FUSS giving them a 4+ cover save and still allowing them to fire onto the field of battle!

Feel the awesome power of three Crisis Suits each with Fusion Blaster and Plasma Rifle!

Computer and Video Games / Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries & Mekpacks free!
« on: September 01, 2010, 06:47:50 AM »
Mektekhas finally gotten the bugs out of their MTX program which allows you to download and play Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries and the two next to impossible to find Mech Packs for free (LEGALLY!)

Just download the MTX Client Download (don't worry about the other stuff the MTX client will install and update everything you need) and sit back for an hour or so as it downloads and install MW4.  You must play the game through the MTX client.

It has been well over a year since I've played this game and I really need more practice!

Paper Terrain & Models / Pillboxes and Corridors by Paper Make iT!
« on: August 18, 2010, 01:00:35 AM »
Paper Make iT! just released Pillboxes and Corridors on Monday.  I immediately picked it up and made my first pillbox.

Using the shuffler you can customize your pillboxes and corridors and buy purchasing a plugin for the Shuffler you can add your own fonts and images as well.

I design mine, print to pdf (pdf plugin not included) open it in Photoshop then drag it to my Craft Robo registration page.  Save it as a BMP, print it from Photoshop, make my GSD's from the BMP and then have my Craft Robo cut and score them.

After my first one I redesigned it and will cut out my second pillbox after I retrieve my CraftRobo blades from the Post Office.

My Planet Strike games for 40K are going to be much more interesting from now on!

Stuff / Looking for a model of a Naval Ship...
« on: August 11, 2010, 11:45:14 AM »
I know there are people here that build ship models or knows people on other forums that do.

I'm looking for a model of Patapsco-class of gasoline tankers were a class of tankers built for the United States Navy during World War II.

I know this is a long shot.  I found one guy that will build them custom but he has not replied to my emails.

Specifically I'm looking for the USS Elkhorn (AOG-7), but I could always paint that on.  The reason I ask is this is the ship my father served on for four years in Vietnam.  I'd like to surprise him with a model.

I know it is a long shot, but I need to start somewhere.

Thanks.

Computer and Video Games / Torchlight II
« on: August 05, 2010, 02:15:55 AM »
I was just saying that there where rumours of a Torchlight Multi-player so I thought I would go check their website again.

Lo and behold Torchlight II is announced!

Runic Games will release Torchlight II initially as a digital download in Spring of 2011.
KEY FEATURES

  • Multi-player – Play with your friends over a local area network, or over the Internet. A free matchmaking peer-to-peer service lets you make new friends for exciting co-op play.

  • Customizable Characters – Players create and customize a character from one of four classes available and choose an animal companion. Through cosmetic, class, and gender choices, skill path decisions, and the treasures they acquire, each character can be custom-tailored to each player’s needs.

  • Moddability – Torchlight II will release with an updated version of TorchEd, the Torchlight editor. Players have the option to create their own mods, adding even more content to the world. You and your friends can download the same mod and play together!

  • New User Interface – Torchlight II boasts an entirely new, improved user interface, designed to be easier than ever for new players to pick up and play. Thanks to this intuitive interface, players have immediate access to a rich and varied world, with little experience necessary.

  • Overworld Areas – Torchlight II has large randomized overworld areas to explore with weather, time of day cycles, and random events that provide players with even more content to experience.

  • Random Dungeons – Delve into randomly generated dungeons within the game at any time for extra experience and rare loot. Dungeons in Torchlight II have even more branching paths to explore with friends filled with random events, rewards and dangers.

  • Retirement System – Once characters are sufficiently leveled up, they can “retire” and bestow specific benefits and perks onto new characters.

  • Pets – Players choose a pet to accompany them. Pets level up along with the player, and help in battle, learn spells, carry items, and perform a variety of support services.

  • Fishing – Fishing returns in the sequel! Players can take a break from the high-energy pace of adventuring to relax by one of the many fishing holes and see what they can catch. Fish have unique benefits for the player and pet, while a number of other rewards can also be discovered.

This is the kind of game I like.  Multi-player but not MMO.  I can play with my friends without others getting in the way.

Warhammer 40K / 9 Crisis Suits on ebay
« on: July 02, 2010, 12:07:44 AM »
With the rise of VAT (tax) here in the UK Crisis Suits have gone up from £12 each to £13.50 each.  I must thank BloodyDrunk for getting me three Crisis Suits for my birthday this year!

I found an auction selling

  • 9 Built and primed Crisis Suits.  Already equipped with magnets!
  • 6 Gun Drones
  • 5 custom built Shield Drones. (The shield drones were made by sticking Shield Generators to the bottom of Gun Drone heads.)

Now I don't have an infinite budget (curse you reality!) However 9 Crisis Suits brand new run £121.50.  Add the cost of magnets (which I use), Chaos Black primer, and what not, I figured I'd have a go at purchasing them.

Well £80 was all I could stretch the budget for (and I really had to stretch, I will have to cut back to one meal a day to make up for it   ) and I got them for £79.40!  That is £8.82 per Crisis Suit fully assembled.  A savings of £28.30.

Not a bad deal.

Now the loss of 7 Gun Drones slightly irritates me, but I have plenty to spare.

However I've now exceeded my army case.  So I'm thinking of getting Battle Foam for my Crisis Suits and for my Vehicles.  However that will have to wait as I don't want to sacrifice my only meal of the day.

Paper Terrain & Models / MEGA DUNGEON
« on: May 09, 2010, 11:57:48 PM »
Here is my plan.

I'm going to make a mega dungeon using the World Works Games TLX system (it would take way too long to do it with Hirst Arts bricks).  I will design the overall dungeon with Campaign Cartographer 3 and offer the TLX builds with their TLX Planner.  I may also offer the campaign in NBOS's "The Keep"

After I finish writing the campaign (School took up all my time) I will place it in either a blog format or a wiki.  If I do the wiki I can offer the campaign in several systems by using the tabs on each page.  GURPS will be the main one, then I would have to find someone to convert it to 4e and probably Savage Worlds.  Then people would just have to click on their system tab and get all the stats for their system while the dungeon and campaign plot remains the same.

By building the dungeon I will offer a physical model for the GM's to either recreate or just to help them visualize.  Plus traditional 2D maps will be made available.

This will be a huge undertaking so I want to get at least 75% of the campaign written and all the terrain built before I make it go live.  If anyone would like to volunteer for helping writing and converting the campaign that would be brilliant.  Also anyone that can draw would be cool as well.

Of course I would need Rob to help with the website/security and Paypal tip jar to help pay for it.

What are your thoughts and comments?
