Hello everyone!

Here's a quick update on the dragon. Her spines and the large scales [scutes?] have been hit with a coat of GW Snakebite Leather. A bit of GW Chaos Black was mixed with the Snakebite Leather and thinned slightly so it could be painted into the deeper areas of the large scales. The body horns have been painted Chaos Black as well.

The legs aren't painted yet because I need something to hold on to while I paint her. :) Comments and criticisms are welcome.

Cheers!

Looking very good at the moment. I feel your still need some depth to the horns/spines to give them some texture. Maybe a black ink to add some shadow and texture to them... but like the color choice.

Cheers!

Hitting a bit of a rut here. No idea where else to go with the spines. :(

At the moment, to me. it looks like I can see each scale and underbelly ridge. They each stand out on their own... but the spine ridges look like one long saw blade glued in place. For the beast to bend, each would have to be unique and flexible in it's own right... maybe just some black low lighting or lighter highlighting to differentiate them from each other... it just doesn't look as good as the rest.

Hope that makes some sense....or is it just the pictures aren't showing it well?

Cheers!

I agree, a bit of blending and separations on the spine would help. The transition from back to spine is too harsh.

Thanks for the suggestions. :) Here's what I have done so far. The skin is black with splashes of Lich Purple/Leviathan purple mix and Regal Blue/Lich Purple mix. I tried some kind of blending with the membrane on the wings. My "client" isn't looking for anything GD-winning, but he likes what he's seeing so far. I'd say the dragon will be done in a few days. :)

sweet. Better than anything I could do :-) Some highlighting and I'd call it done.

Thanks, Rob. Here are the parts that need finishing:

eyes, tongue and teeth
chin
right rear leg
left legs
body spikes
wings
reattaching to the base

A few more days, and she's done. I'm really excited. :)

Cheers!

Now I like it ALOT! :o The additional shading works very well. It really pops out at you now. I know I'd be proud to own it. Well done and I'll eagerly await the final pics.

Cheers!

Hi all, here's a small update:

Face has been cleaned up a bit but I'm not very happy with the teeth yet.

I'm thinking of painting the body spikes, talons and wing tips a mix of Dwarf Bronze and Burnished gold.

Cheers!

The teeth now suffer for the same problems as the back spikes did... no flavor. Add some fine black line or marks to 'dirty' them up. That should do the trick.

I myself would tie the body spikes into the same colors as the back spikes... the claws the same base shade but either lighter or darker. Real animals horns and hoofs are generally 'made' from the same material and share a color base. Same with dinosaurs who had backspikes/plates and horns.

Just make sure to add some definition to them like the back spines/teeth in either case. Still looking very good.

Cheers!
